Twins

I was nervous to have twins.

Two babies the same age and two of everything.

But 3 years later, I LOVE having twins.

They have a lifetime best friend.

They always have a playmate.

They get to do the fun stuff and the hard stuff together.

The love they have for each other is amazing.

Their bond is unbreakable.

& I really hope it stays that way.

Holden & Riley got camera’s for Christmas and 3/4 of their photos are of each other. 🥰

Reading

We incorporate reading into our family a lot.

I have bought hundreds of kids books, if not thousands.

We have a book shelf in each room, that is overflowing.

We read to our kids A LOT, but they also love reading by themselves.

At 6 months old, children start getting books at their doctors appointments at our hospital and Riley was handed hers and she started “reading” it.

Our doctor was so impressed.

He said “we should take a picture of her and document why we do this! You guys must read to them a lot. You should be proud”.

We were and we still are.

In the last few weeks we have started to see how much reading means to them.

Holden asks for his little lamp to stay on so he can read and if we forget, he turns it on himself.

& Riley has a little unicorn light that she now calls her “book light”.

EVERY NIGHT they have to have a book to crawl into bed with and we love it.

& tonight, as I turn off Holden’s light like I always do, I see how much they love it as well.

1st Birthday

Today was my sons 1st birthday.

It was an amazing day celebrating him but also a hard day remembering a year ago.

My son was born 4 weeks early via urgent c-section due to decreased fetal movement. He was born with an Apgar score of a 1. We did not get to hold him or see him for more than a second before he was taken away.

Once intubated and an umbilical line placed, he was stable but not without a fight.

The next 7 days were hard. We didn’t get to hold him. We didn’t get to feed him. He laid there, fighting for his life.

& there was no guarantee that he would survive.

But he did and we are forever thankful.

Now a year later, he is still fighting.

He is happy, healthy but he has a bad heart. He takes medication 3 times a day & gives his mama a heart attack at least once a day.

Our lives will never be worry free but every year, every day, it gets a little easier.

Because we hope that one day, it will all just be a memory.

Happy 1st Birthday baby boy. Mom & Dad love you.

NEVER stop fighting 💙
