Change

Covid-19 has made many changes in our lives, in our community and in our world.

As an essential healthcare worker, my hours have doubled and I am not doing my normal work. I’m working earlier than I normally do and sometimes even later than I normally do. I am also at the front lines of this pandemic when I am normally behind the scenes for education. But I wouldn’t want to be doing anything else in this time of need.

As a non-essential worker, my husband’s business has closed and he is now home during the week. & with my hours being all over the place, he is getting the kids up by himself and sometimes even putting them to bed by himself. His business may be defined as a non-essential business during this time but he is definitely essential to my work, to me and to my children.

So if your work is essential or not during this pandemic, change is definitely happening.

I just hope that this change doesn’t last months and that our community comes back even stronger because of it.

Essential Workers – Thank You

My last post, I thanked all of the healthcare workers but DO NOT forget about all of the essential workers that DO NOT get enough credit.

There are a lot of people who keep our society going who do not work in healthcare.

So please make sure to thank these guys as well:

  • Food service – we all have to eat whether that be from a grocery store or a restaurant and that food has to come from somewhere (farmers, bakeries, etc.)
  • Truck drivers – we need a way to receive our food, our medical supplies and other essentials
  • Environmental services – keeping our society clean during these times is critical
  • Transportation companies – not everyone is capable of driving so having a way to get to the hospital, grocery store or to other essential destinations is important
  • Childcare – essential workers have kids and having childcare continues to let these individuals work
  • Gas stations – whether it is for a quick meal, gasoline, or to stock up on bread, eggs or milk
  • Media outlets – we need a way to keep up with the current news so that everyone can stay safe
  • Police stations – sadly crime does not stop during a crisis and sometimes it actually increases
  • Fire departments – accidents still happen and when a fire is started, we need a way to stop it as fast as possible
  • Utilities – utility needs are going to increase now that more people are at home and in the winter months having heat and electric is very important
  • Funeral services – sadly the death tole will continue as this pandemic increases

So when you get your next meal, when you pump your next tank of gas or when you buy that next roll of toilet paper please thank those who are working.

They are putting themselves at risk just like every healthcare worker & they definitely don’t get the credit they deserve.

Healthcare Workers – Thank you

The last three days I have been screening patients as they walk into the hospital.

I stop every single person.

Some are super understanding. Some thank us for taking every precaution necessary. & some are straight up angry.

I understand that you don’t want to have to answer a bunch of questions to simply pick up your medication at the pharmacy. I understand that you haven’t felt sick at all. I understand that the visitor policy may not be to you and your families benefit.

But…

For those who understand, THANK YOU.

For those who actually thank us for taking the precautions or thank us for being there on a Saturday instead of being home with our families, THANK YOU.

& for those who get angry. Stop and think about why we are doing what we are doing. I understand that it may slow down your 2 minute trip. I understand that it may suck not having your whole family with you.

We are doing this for you. We are doing this for our patients. We are doing this for your family and for ours. We are doing this for the doctors, the nurses and for the certified nurses assistant taking care of you, me and our families might we need the care.

So as a healthcare worker who is in the midst of it all, remember to be kind. Remember to be understanding.

& THANK YOU.
