Black Lives Matter

I’ve been thinking about doing a blog post on everything that has been going on in our nation but was worried about the criticism I would get.

But this is IMPORTANT.

Speaking up is important. Having beliefs, feelings, opinions is important. & standing up for others is important.

Black lives matter. All lives matter. But not all lives are being beaten, killed or treated disrespectfully just because of the color of their skin.

George Floyd, a black man, was killed by a white cop. He was pinned down for 8 minutes and 46 seconds which resulted in him going unconscious and ultimately his death.

In turn, protesters have taken to cities with peaceful protesting, looting, rallies and other forms of demonstrations to show their support.

Now I’m not a huge fan of the destruction that has occurred because of these protests but I also understand why.

When the community turned to peaceful protests after George Floyd’s death they were faced with an unjust reaction from our government.

So, instead of quitting, giving up or letting them win. They proved to them that this matters, that they need to listen and that something needs to done.

Black lives matter.

As much as I hate seeing our nation torn in half, I’m proud of those who are fighting for change.

Because change needs to happen.

So if you are looking for ways to help: speak up, stand up, give to the community in shambles & do something.

Post Surgery Complications

As most of you know, almost 4 weeks ago I underwent another knee surgery but what a lot of you don’t know is how hard this surgery has been on me and my family.

We knew going in that it was going to be hard since I was going to be on crutches for a prolonged period but we didn’t expect so much pain, swelling or complications.

For one, and the biggest complication of all is that I cannot stand more than 5 minutes. Due to pain, swelling and blood flow to my foot (yes, my foot, not my knee). This makes it very difficult to even remotely help with my family or go to work.

Luckily for me, I have a wonderful family and wonderful coworkers who have helped me A LOT.

But yesterday was bad.

So I called the nurse advisor and was advised not to move around this weekend (again hard with 3 kids) and call my doctor Monday or go into Urgent Care/Emergency right away.

As a family we decided I would wait and that I would ice and elevate ALL weekend.

& it’s been killing me. It’s beautiful out. My family needs me. & I can’t even go to the bathroom and back without wanting to cry.

My mental health has taken a tole as I was hoping this surgery was going to be it..

So please send me some prayers that they have some sort of answer for me tomorrow because this has been absolute hell.

& if you have an recommendations please help a girl out!

This was my foot after being up TWO minutes (ignore my Covid toe nails 🤣)

Words of Advice

As a mother of three who works full-time and is currently in school for my bachelors, I have some words of advice for you college age kids.

  • Get a bachelors degree – I don’t care what it’s in, it will help you in the long run
  • Travel – if you are financially able, travel the world before you settle down and have kids or at least pick a school away from your family/state
  • Try new things – skydive, swim with the dolphins, snorkel, parasail, join a sport or anything on your bucket list
  • Do all of the “teenager” stuff – party, have sex (protected), spend time with your friends, have roommates
  • Enjoy the outdoors – camp, go to the lake, hike, fish, boat on the river

Just enjoy life.

Don’t get so caught up in school, work, life that you don’t have fun.

Because trust me, once you settle down and build a family, you won’t have time.

Parenting comes first. Your husband/wife comes first. Your work will come first.

So go do it now while you have time.

Because I wish I would have.

(& don’t get me wrong, I LOVE my life but I do wish I would have seen the world, done more and had more fun while I could)
